Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan says five motels across the electorate have successfully applied for Government funding under the Hotel Energy Uplift Program.
The five businesses are part of 440 hotels, motels and serviced apartment facilities across Australia to be awarded grants of up to $25,000 to undertake energy savings projects under the $10.2 million program.
Mr Conaghan says the energy-saving works will help reduce costs.
“This will help lower their energy bills by upgrading to more energy efficient air-conditioning, refrigeration and equipment, improving the building through double glazing and insulation, carrying out energy audits or installing energy monitoring equipment,” Mr Conaghan said.
“The five facilities are, Zebra Motel, Coffs Harbour – $25,000 for air conditioning upgrades; Toreador Motel, Coffs Harbour – $25,000 for hot water system upgrades; Mandarin Motel, Macksville, $24,775 to install new solar hot water heaters and split system air conditioners; Beaches Holiday Resort, Port Macquarie – $25,000 for lighting and ventilation efficiency works; and, Rockpool Motor Inn, South West Rocks, pictured, – $11,700 for energy efficient air conditioners.
“These grants will help lower their energy bills by upgrading to more energy efficient air-conditioning, refrigeration and equipment, improving the building through double glazing and insulation, carrying out energy audits or installing energy monitoring equipment.
“Motel operators will be able to save on energy costs, putting more money back in their pockets and supporting the creation of new jobs, including for electricians, carpenters, engineers, and plumbers.”
Mr Conaghan said over 85 per cent of the grants awarded will go to facilities in regional or remote Australia, providing a significant boost to our regions. This is good news for tourist destinations welcoming back visitors after COVID-19-related restrictions.
