Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan is urging volunteer groups to submit an expression of interest (EOI) for the latest round of Volunteer Grants.
He said grants between $1,000 and $5,000 are available to eligible not-for-profit community organisations.
Mr Conaghan said EOI’s will open on Monday March 22 and close on Thursday April 15.
“Volunteer groups can only apply and be nominated for the grants through the EOI process,” he said.
“The funding can be used for various activities including, the purchase of eligible small equipment items for use by volunteers, to contribute to volunteers’ fuel costs and to contribute to transport costs for volunteers with disability who are unable to drive.
“The grants can also be used to assist with the cost of training courses for volunteers, to undertake background screening checks for volunteers, to conduct activities to promote awareness of and increase participating in, volunteering opportunities or adapting practices to support volunteers’ safety in the current pandemic environment.”
He said the Volunteer Grants Activity is part of the Families and Communities Program and aims to strengthen relationships, support families, improve wellbeing of children and people and also reduce the cost of family breakdown and strengthen family and community functioning.
“These grants also aim to help community organisations to support the efforts of Australia’s volunteers and to help organisations to support the inclusion of vulnerable people through volunteering.
“Overall, these grants are about encouraging, supporting and increasing participation in volunteering,” he added.
Mr Conaghan said the Cowper electorate will distribute up to $132,450 in funding.
Some of the conditions include, that the grant funding must be spent within the 2021 Volunteer Grants activity period which commences at the start of the agreement and concludes on December 31, 2022.
Successful applicants will be announced in November.
The 2021 Volunteer Grants open on Monday March 22 and expressions of interest close on Thursday April 15.
