Riverside Resort Urunga opens final stage ready for visitor resurgence

The final $2.7 million stage of Riverside Resort Urunga was officially opened today just in time for Monday’s restart of interstate travel.

Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said the resorts final eight accessible units nestled beside the beautiful Urunga River were top class and provided a great example of the quality of experience available to visitors who come to the Coffs Coast and Mid North Coast.

“With interstate travel opening up from Monday, I encourage healthy people from Sydney, the Tweed and the New England region to come and experience what our beautiful region has to offer,” he said.

“The new accommodation units here are typical of what the region has to offer, great facilities on pristine waterways with unique cultural and culinary experiences nearby.

“I’m pleased this particular project was delivered with $950,000 from our Coalition Government after the resort’s owner, Federation of Community Sporting and Workers Clubs, was successful in its submission of a grant application to the Building Better Regions Fund.

“The Building Better Regions Fund aims to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities and this is precisely what this project has done.”

Stage 6 is the final development phase of Riverside Resort Urunga and was built by local Coffs Harbour builder CBuild. Approximately 90 per cent of the $2,786,842 total project value was spent with local suppliers and the development provides an additional 48 beds at the resort and an estimated three ongoing jobs, should the resort return to its usual visitor occupancy later this year.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Building Better Regions Fund had delivered hundreds of infrastructure and community projects across the country.

“The Nationals in Government will always deliver for regional Australia,” Mr McCormack said.

“Through the Building Better Regions Fund we are investing $841 million in projects to secure the future of regional communities.

“The Fund has helped support critical community facilities and infrastructure, including retirement villages, sports facilities and revitalising town centres.”
Federation of Community Sporting and Workers Clubs Chairman Robert Humphrys said he was hopeful visitor demand would be strong later this year.

“About half of the visitors who cancelled their bookings due to COVID-19 rescheduled it to later this year, so I am tentatively optimistic visitor demand will be strong,” he said.

“We are so proud these final eight units have been built two years ahead of schedule and that was only possible because of the Federal Government grant.

“I would like to thank Coffs Harbour builder Cbuild, architect Rosalie Stollery, CEO Ken Conway and all the local tradespeople who worked on the project.”

Riverside Resort Urunga recently gained state-wide attention by taking out two awards at the NSW Tourism Awards last year. It won Best Self-Contained Accommodation and Excellence in Accessible Tourism, plus a range of other accessability awards in previous years.
