Thank a volunteer this International Volunteer Day

Tomorrow is International Volunteer Day and the Australian Government is thanking volunteer organisations by acknowledging their service to the community and awarding a $2.7 million supplementary grant round.

Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said our community identity and spirit is shaped by volunteers and they have done an outstanding job in 2020.

“On the 5th of December we mark International Volunteer Day and I am encouraging everyone to celebrate the contribution of charities and volunteer organisations as they give us so much,” he said.

“This year we have seen the amazing service of the Rural Firefighters, BlazeAid, veterans groups, charitable groups and sporting groups – all of which have continued to serve our community over a challenging year.

“I say thank you to each and every volunteer and community organisation today as you have all done an extraordinary job to support our residents this year.”

These supplementary grants are in addition to the $9.2 million already distributed to more than 2,500 Australian community organisations over 2019-20. A total of 17 groups in Cowper will receive a portion of almost $60,000.
